HIPAA

HIPAA. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act was enacted by Congress in 1996. The act defines national standards to protect individual medical records and other personal health information, and gives patients more control over their health information. HIPAA also regulates the security of health information and electronic transactions for providers, health plans, and employers.
